Beautiful early Bird lounge chair

designed by Harry Bertoia (1915-1978). 

It was Charles Eames who motivated the sculptor Harry Bertoia to design a chair, the result was a set of different wire chairs produced by Knoll International. Bertoia turned industrial wire rods into a design icon: transparent and comfortable.
 

In Bertoia's own words, "If you look at these chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture. Space passes right through them."

Het was Charles Eames die de beeldhouwer Harry Bertoia motiveerde om een design stoel te maken. Bertoia maakte van industriële metaaldraden een echt design icoon: licht en comfortabel.

In Bertoia's eigen woorden: "Als je naar deze stoelen kijkt, zijn ze voornamelijk gemaakt van lucht, zoals sculpturen. De ruimte gaat er dwars doorheen."
